Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional evening or weekend work required
Salary: Targeted salary range: $67,840-$73,000
Travel: Less than 10%
Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties: Manage the University's risk of financial loss resulting from property and liability exposures by identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and monitoring University risk. Develop, implement, and monitor many of the University's insurance programs and structures including the administration of the University's commercially insured, collaboratively insured, and self-insured programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Discipline / Degree Area:  
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Specialized training in property, casualty, liability insurance, or relevant experience in risk management.
Required Minimum Work Experience: Three years' experience in the field of risk management, insurance, or relevant responsibilities for safety or regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: Ability to keep information confidential.
Ability to understand and explain insurance industry concepts, programs and policies.
Ability to identify and analyze risks of property and liability losses and ascertain that such risks are insured, transferred by contract, controlled, reduced or eliminated as appropriate.
Ability to work with external stakeholders, including insurance brokers, administrators, agents, and others to procure the best balance of coverage and pricing.
Ability to write, interpret and review contracts, leases, and agreements with and without advice from legal counsel.
Ability to interpret insurance coverage documents and provide counsel on insurance matters.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements regarding risk management.
Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices.
Strong analytical skills.
Ability to gather, investigate and analyze large data sets using a variety of tools to draw conclusions.
Critical thinking skills-using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to accurately and efficiently operate department equipment to include any combination of word processing, spreadsheet, database or e-mail applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Risk Management, or Actuarial Science.
Experience in higher education or governmental setting.
Master's Degree.
Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate Risk Management (ARM) designation or similar certifications.
Experience in claims adjustment.
