Work Schedule: Traditionally Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required.
One position is available with the potential to be filled at any of the listed levels consistent with the selected applicant's experience. Levels include: Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I or Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II.
Salary: Targeted Salary Range: Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I: $55,250-$58,500; Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II: $59,755-$63,270
Travel: 10-25%

Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I:
Assist in the analysis, upkeep, programming, and general day-to-day activities associated with the University broadband system and physical network infrastructure. Assist in the deployment of network and wireless gear including installation of equipment racks, wire management, cable wire pulling and installation. Work will be performed at NMU on-campus and off-site locations.
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II:
Responsible for the analysis, upkeep, programming, and general day-to-day activities associated with the University broadband system and physical network infrastructure. Responsible for the deployment of network and wireless gear including installation of equipment racks, wire management, cable wire pulling and installation. Responsible for the overall management and coordination of assigned projects which includes implementation and oversight of a diverse range of administrative and programmatic activities, including, but not limited to supervising program/project staff, planning and coordinating activities, and developing, documenting and maintaining project data and systems. Work will be performed at NMU on-campus and off-site locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent
Discipline/Degree Area:
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I or II:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, continued education, and/or experience.
Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I:
Standard Tower, Safety, and Rescue Training within 6 months of the hire date.
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II:
Standard Tower, Safety and Rescue Training
Required Minimum Work Experience:
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I:
Experience installing and maintaining telecommunications and network equipment.
General labor experience, preferably electrical/telecom experience.
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II:
Two years' experience installing and maintaining telecommunications and network equipment.
Two years' general labor experience, preferably electrical/telecom experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I or II:
Basic knowledge of network switching and routing as well as basic knowledge of TCP/IP and IP addressing.
Basic knowledge and understanding of network VLAN.
Basic knowledge of network and telephony cabling, including both copper and fiber based cable plants.
Possess a thorough understanding of the infrastructure, hardware, and software required for networking.
Basic knowledge of AC and DC theory as it relates to powering network equipment, specifically -48VDC systems.
Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Attention to detail.
Ability to work with others in a team.
Physical capability to perform all of duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodation which includes sitting, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Possess grip strength and dexterity to safely and effectively work with hand and power tools. Ability to balance on ladders of lifts and work in small or confined spaces.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist I or II:
Basic knowledge of construction standards as they relate to installation of wiring pathways.
Experience with network cabling, pulling, termination, and testing.
Familiarity with Windows, MacOS and UNIX based servers and clients.
Online safety training including ladder safety, scissor lift safety and workplace injury prevention.
Broadband and Network Infrastructure Specialist II:
Experience as a team leader or providing functional leadership to others.
