Position Title: Hvy Equip Opr/Landscaping Spc
Department: Plant Operations
Term of Assignment: Continuing
Term End Date, If Applicable:  
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt = overtime eligible
Work Schedule: Traditionally, Monday-Friday, 6:00 am-2:30 pm in summer and 5:00 am-1:30 pm in winter; early morning, evening and weekend call-ins required
Salary: $22.22 starting; $23.34 working
Travel: No travel
Brief Statement of Duties
Brief Statement of Duties: Under general supervision, engage in vehicle equipment operation, perform horticultural related duties, and maintain outdoor facilities, streets, parking lots, sidewalks and grounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education: High School Graduation or Equivalent
Discipline / Degree Area:  
Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Must possess a valid Michigan CDL Category B with Air Brakes; applicant must have successfully passed the written portion of the CDL examination at the time of hire and successfully pass the driving examination within 4 months of hire. Certified with a Michigan Pesticide Applicators Certification Category 3A, 3B and 6 within 6 months of hire.
Required Minimum Work Experience: Two years of full-time experience in operating various types of heavy equipment such as heavy trucks, front end loaders, all types of lawn care equipment, etc.
One year of commercial experience with turf and plant maintenance including digging, mowing, planting, trimming and fertilization.
One year of commercial snow plowing experience.
Must successfully pass Michigan Department of Transportation physical.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: KNOWLEDGE:
General knowledge of grounds maintenance including heavy equipment operation, turf maintenance and horticulture, snow removal and ice control.
Ability to pass relevant oral, written or performance testing.

Efficient heavy equipment operation and precision control.
The ability to operate and quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
Physical capability to perform all duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Strong oral communication skills to effectively deal with a broad variety of people.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
Additional Desirable Qualifications: Completion of NMU HEO Training Program.
Completion of commercial driver's school.
Completion of any courses related to grounds maintenance work, including dendrology, soils, turf maintenance, etc.
