.50 full-time equivalent; variable shift/variable days, Monday through Friday to be arranged by supervisor. Traditionally 3-4 days per week during the summer and times of heavy workload and 1-2 days per week at other times of the year. |

Brief Statement of Duties |

Perform all activities necessary to process the bi-weekly payroll for faculty, staff, and student employees. Perform tasks to establish and maintain employee/payroll records including processing for new hires and related job assignments through Banner Human Resources. Verify and audit timekeeping records. Maintain payroll and related records documenting the accrual/usage of leave balances. Compute wages and overtime payments including retroactive payments. Calculate, process, and remit involuntary deductions for garnishment, levy, child support, and bankruptcy orders. Calculate, record, balance, and remit payments for voluntary deductions and annuities. Provide confidential, accurate, and timely ACH file uploads along with payments to retirement/annuity vendors and other external agencies. Process withholding tax deposits/returns for multiple states. Responsible for direct deposit upload and accuracy of net payroll in excess of $1.8 million. Responsible for answering department and employee questions along with special requests for information. |

Required Minimum Work Experience: |
High school graduate with four years of relevant work experience using automated systems to process payroll and well as current knowledge of payroll related laws/regulations. Associate's Degree with three years of relevant work experience using automated systems to process payroll and well as current knowledge of payroll related laws/regulations. Bachelor's Degree with two years of relevant work experience using automated systems to process payroll and well as current knowledge of payroll related laws/regulations. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties: |
Knowledge: Knowledge of payroll, time-keeping, and reporting systems. Knowledge of federal and state payroll/tax laws. Knowledge of spreadsheet software and data reporting tools. Knowledge of accounting practices and employment regulations.
Skills: Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to convey and comprehend oral and written information clearly and concisely. Ability to ensure a satisfactory customer experience with regard to payroll outcomes. Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications: |
Associate/Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field. Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC). Certified Payroll Processor (CPP). Experience with Ellucian Banner and/or UltraTime, or similar ERP payroll and timekeeping systems. Experience with payroll processing for 1000 employees. Familiarity with higher education specific rules and regulations including federal work study, student FICA exemption, and international tax rules for resident and non-resident aliens. Familiarity with various benefit plans including state sponsored defined benefit pension systems. |
